On our trip to Tofino where we got engaged

How We Met

My girlfriends and I were travelling through England and Scotland in the summer of 2000. I HAD to see 2 things: Big Ben, and Stonehenge. We were supposed to go to Stonehenge on the 20th, but we were a little late that day and decided to go to London that afternoon and visit Stonehenge in the morning. It was the morning of the Summer Solstice and our bus drove through the countryside, we suddenly saw it... a little smaller than I pictured, but MUCH more amazing. I asked a guy who didn't speak English to take a picture of the 4 of us infront of Stonehenge. I remember him being amused by my disposable panoramic camera that you had to wind! Several mintues later, Alina wanted the same sort of picture. "There's a guy in a navy blue sweatshirt RIGHT there" I thought. Alina just looked around. I took charge: I took the camera from her and proceded to ask this young man (only 23 at the time) to take our picture. He turned around and took off his hood. "Hummm, not bad" I thought to myself. After taking the picture he asked us if we were from Canada (the Maple leaf flag patches must have gave it away). He was with another guy and a girl. I sure hoped it wasn't his girlfriend. We chatted a few times around the stone circle. He didn't talk much, but his brother told us many stories-- Jimmy Hoffa is buried there, you know. It was in the gift shop that we made eye contact. Ahhh... Later he was standing outside by himself and I walked by him to go to the bathroom. When I got back he said "I thought it was pretty cool that we met here and we live so close, do you want to exchange numbers?" I was up for that! We played phone tag for the next 3 1/2 months and finally talked on Thanksgiving. The rest is history.
